Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)

Introduction

Do you have an interest in Pharmacy? If yes, then you have an opportunity to pursue Pharm.D also known as Doctor of pharmacy if you are eligible for it. Pharm.D is a higher-level course to be pursued either after completion of class 12th or after pursuing a Diploma in Pharmacy. Pharm.D is the course where after achieving the degree, holders obtain exceptional skills in diagnosis, treating diseases simultaneously obtain skills of selection and usage of drugs for treating ailments and monitoring patients. Pharm.D is offered in two forms which are as follows


1. 6-year course with five years of education and one year of the internship experience. 


2. The post-baccalaureate course which is a 3-year course. 


Eligibility


To apply either of the courses, an applicant must be eligible for it by the criteria provided which is 

  1. 6-year Pharm.D course

  • The applicant should complete class 12 from any state/national educational board with the combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Maths or Biology and the applicant should be completed 17 years. 

                                                     Or

  • If all the conditions are satisfied then an applicant holding a degree of Diploma in Pharmacy can also apply for the Pharm.D course.

2. 3-year Post Baccalaureate Pharm.D course

  • The Applicant should possess a degree in Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) from an institute recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India.
  • The candidate should complete class 12th taking up Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology as the combination.


Syllabus 


The syllabus for the 6-year Pharm.D course consists of ten semesters as five years of which is education and one year is for the internship.
