Cyclone Nisarga

Introduction

India is currently facing one of the biggest threat to mankind which Coronavirus. Over 2,17,000 cases have been confirmed in India out of which over 6,000 people have been deceased. This has affected us both economically and socially. People have been suffering from mental disorders and physical ailments because of staying at home due to lockdown. Even after such a tragedy, the quandaries don't stop here as currently, India is suffering from its 2nd cyclone in a month which is Cyclone Nisarga. Are you entirely aware of this virus and situations caused by it? If not, then this article will help you understand it.


What is Cyclone Nisarga?

The name Cyclone Nisarga is taken from the list of 169 names suggested by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Such names are generally given to cyclones emerging in the North Indian Ocean including the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. This cyclone is entered Indian land through Ratnagiri then it reached Alibag. Both the place was affected a lot due to this cyclone. It was going to enter Mumbai but it was diverted towards Nashik naturally. However, its occurrence was experienced in Mumbai and many parts of Maharashtra the whole day even if it didn't reach the regions.


News

Several events happened due to the Cyclone Nisarga. Here, some of these events will be covered. 

  • Before the cyclone entering land borders of India over 1,00,000 people from Maharashtra were evacuated from zones prone to the cyclone to a safe place. 
  • Over 14 NDRF teams were deployed for the evacuation and rescue operations if required. 
  • Areas like Panvel, Kamothe Node and Navi Mumbai experienced power cut due to heavy rains and windy weather. 
  • The cyclone was likely to head towards Gujarat coastline like Surat so those places were also under the protection of NDRF teams. 
  • Roadways and Airways were in entire Maharashtra and some parts of Gujarat were prohibited for preventing any mishap. 
  • Several trees were uprooted from their place due to the high speed of winds which ranged between 120 - 140 kmph. 
  • A bus stand in Ghansoli was excluded from its place by these winds. 


Conclusion 

India is currently facing one of the biggest threat of mankind which COVID-19. Even after that, the series of problems are continuing. In the past month, we have face two cyclones, forest fires and such events. In this situation praying for the wellness of the most affected people is the only way of giving our gratitude to them.
