Humanity Drowning with the Drowning Elephant 

Introduction 

There have been various animals tortured, burnt and killed just for fun. People think they feed animals which means the animals are their property. We are blessed with brains and emotions so that we can express it towards other living things not for exploiting them for our happiness. There have been various brutal incidents of animal cruelty recorded in history but the one we saw a few days back was over the top. It was an incident that took place with a pregnant elephant carrying a baby in her womb in Kerala. You might have heard and watched about it. If not then here are the details about the incident.

Incident

The event took place on May 27 in Kerala when an elephant carrying a baby in her womb was brutally killed by some villages in Palakkad. The female elephant was starving. So she was roaming in the Silver Valley forest for food. Some villagers had planted a pineapple filled with firecrackers. This exercise is practised in various parts of India for keeping wild animals away from their farms or even for obtaining meat which is an illegal activity. When she saw the pineapple, she ran towards it and ate without any hesitation. In a few seconds, the firecracker blasted inside her mouth. She still managed to stay alive. In the morning of next day, some people spotted the elephant near the Thayamakundu area of the Veliya River. They informed the forest department officials who reached at the site immediately. They tried to pull out the elephant but she refused to leave the river maybe because she lost the hope in humans. On 27 May, 2 skilled elephants were called at the site for carrying elephant but by then it was too late as the elephant lost her soul around 4:15 PM. 

Conclusion 

Animals are very useful to us as they fulfil our needs. They used for guarding us, feeding us, keeping us warm during winters and various other things. Our utility is satisfied by such animals then why are we failing in satisfying their needs which is only adoring and loving? We must ask this question to ourselves and try to find out a solution for it as soon as possible otherwise this world will not be a safe place for any living being no matter if it is an animal or us.
