The 27-year-old Bhavani Devi scripted history when she became the first fencer from India to qualify for the Olympics. At Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she became the primary fencer from the country to qualify for Olympics as she began her campaign with a confident 15-3 win against Tunisia's Nadia Ben Azizi

Her Olympic game came to an end as she lost to fourth-seeded Manon Brunet of France 15-7 within the fencing women’s sabre second round at the Makuhari Messe Hall on Monday. Manon Brunet dominated Bhavani over the 2 halves as she defeated the Indian by 15-7 and marched into the round of 16.At the turn, the score read 8-2, summation the difference between the 2 .

Bhavani showed her skills when she took points for charging and poking the sword on Brunet’s neck and torso, but it wasn't enough.

After getting knocked out from Tokyo 2020, Devi stated on twitter  that she had put in everything and did her utmost but couldn't convert the second round into a win. "I am sorry," she wrote alongside folded hand emoji and Indian tricolours.It was always getting to be difficult for Bhavani against the Frenchwoman ranked third within the world. In fact, the 27-year-old Indian had lost all four previous encounters to Brunet.
