What is ZAPAD 2021.

• ZAPAD 2021 is a 13-day exercise.
• It will be held between September 3 to September 16.

According to the defence ministry of India . A contingent of 200 Army personnel will participate within the multinational Exercise ZAPAD 2021 being held at Nizhniy, Russia from September 3 to 16. The Indian contingent has undergone a tricky and disciplined training schedule which incorporates some conventional operations like mechanised, airborne & heliborne, counterterrorism, combat conditioning and firing.

"ZAPAD 2021 exercises are going to be organised with the main aim of enhancing military and strategic ties amongst the participating nations and boosting the anti-terror cooperation."

A separate exercise called KAZIND-21 also will be starting on by September 1, 2020. it's a 13-day military exercise including the militaries of India and Kazakhstan. It began at training Node Aisha Bibi, Kazakhstan. This year marked because the fifth edition of the annual bilateral exercise between both the armies. 90 soldiers from Bihar Regiment of the Indian Army are participating within the exercise.

China and Pakistan also are taking a section of this multinational event as obsersvers. Of the 17 countries invited for the exercise, there are nine participating countries and eight Observers including China and Pakistan, a defence source said.

ZAPAD 2021 is one among the few of level exercises of Russian soldiers and can focus totally on operations against terrorists, the military said..

In all, 17 countries are invited by Russia for the exercise. of those nine are Participating countries which include Mongolia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Russia, India and Belarus. the opposite eight countries are Observers which include Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka , the source added.

This month, the military will participate during a multinational exercise peace mission in Russia with a 200-strong battalion from Sikh Li infantry, another source said.
